Scheduling optimization of enzyme production in Copenhagen

Client:Novozymes
Sector:Chemical and Petrochemical Industry
Optimization type:Scheduling , Planning

Client

Founded in 2000, Novozymes is a Danish company with multinational scope. With more than 5,000 employees, it has dominion over the biological solutions market.

Context

Enzymes are produced in several stages of very different duration. Fermentation takes days, while the filtration and drying processes take only a few hours. The risk of contamination between products that follow the schedule implies time to clean the facilities and directly affects the quantity produced. The perishability of the product and the limitation of stock increase the difficulty of planning the production sequence of the factories that count dozens of fermentation tanks.

Solution

An entire mixed production sequencing model with customized intermediate stock was developed to perfectly represent the customer's conditions.

Results

The use of the model provided a reduction in the downtime of productive resources and, consequently, an increase in production capacity.
